Positive-Negative: Meditation Lights
Sometimes in life a pause is needed. As a maker, these lamps were almost a bi-product of needing to pause. In a time of stress, I would roll out a sheet of clay, and without prior design consideration, start punching each individual hole to form a lattice of negative spaces. The repetitive process, in taking away physical matter from the clay sheet, was in fact an additive and restorative process for my emotional and mental stability. Turning the sheets of pierced clay into lights was a way to make sense of the hours spent punching holes, while also inviting the viewer to share my process, finding warmth and security in the light’s glow.
